Last night was fun. First I went to the Raptors-Wolves game with Efman, Marz, James from Dino Nation and Holly MacKenzie from SLAM. Fun facts about Holly: She's from Nova Scotia, says Will Solomon is "her boy" and Stephen Jackson is pretty much her favorite player in the NBA.

Then, on my drive home, I turned on Fan 590 to hear that the Tampa Bay Rays were up 5-0 on the Red Sox in the seventh inning of Game Five of the ALCS. The Rays were already up 3-1 in the series so I figured that was pretty much that. I got home, watched the first half The Daily Show, and then figured I'd switch back to the game so I could enjoy the Rays celebrating their improbable journey to the World Series.

What I actually saw was that it was still the seventh inning and the score was now 7-4. Of course, what followed was an epic bed-shitting by the Rays of historic proportions. I mean, we're talking a Spud from Trainspotting level of bedsheet besoiling. Baseball normally bores the hell out of me, but that was some show. I can't even be mad now if the douchetastic Red Sox end up winning the series.

(Apropos of nothing, I was just informed that Chuck Liddell is waiting in reception. I'm still not used to weird moments like this at my job.)

The Raptors game was pretty boring, although I will admit that I didn't pay too close attention because I spent most of the game talking to Holly and James. The one thing I did notice (aside from the fact that Will Solomon is clearly the homeless man's Mike James) is that it appears the Joey-bot may have been given an operating system upgrade by Graham Industries this off-season. Joey made his pre-season debut last night in the starting lineup and played smart and under control while scoring 12 points and grabbing four rebounds in 26 minutes. I know it's just one game, but the fact that Sam Mitchell immediately put Graham in the starting lineup on his return is telling. Could it be that Graham Industries finally devised a program to remove the "Bad Joey Virus" from his CPU?

Commence with the linkage...

Rip City Project spends "an evening with RaptorBlog". Typically an evening with me involves fine wine, Super Monkey Ball and partially-clothed cuddling — but I don't really know Rip City well enough yet.

Sam Mitchell gives props to Rob Babcock. Well, the guy did hire him. What do you expect?

Sam is also giving Joey a clean slate this season. Not me. I've seen this movie before. It's been three seasons now. I'm still as skeptical about Joey-bot as I am that the next version of Microsoft Windows won't somehow be even shittier than the previous one. (And yet, I still refuse to switch to Mac. I can't figure myself out sometimes.)

Michael Grange has a really good observation about Will Solomon: "Solomon in particular tends to pick up his dribble at the most inopportune times, killing the offence in its tracks and inspiring the opposition defence."

Arsenalist tees off on TSN and MLSE about 23 games being shown on TSN2.

Pardeep Toor waxes poetic about the signifigance of the 2010 off-season for the Raptors.

Kelly Dwyer puts Pistons fans on blast for claiming that Flip Saunders was a bad defensive coach.

Mavericks forward James Singleton has an anecdote that should make some NBA players re-consider the option of playing ball in Europe — where they don't have a players' association: "They were very, very strict with everything. It's like, if you lost a game, they'd fine you. If you didn't beat a team by a certain amount of points, they'd fine you.

Eddy Curry says he has about 50 tattoos. Those tats are getting pretty stretched out, I'd say

Craig Smith says the T-Wolves' frontcourt has "girth". This might be the first time I've ever heard that word used in a context other than... yeah, I think I'm going to leave that one alone.
