Dino Nation has been a longtime supporter of Sam Mitchell but today he wrote, "Is it time to make a move and change the coach? The answer to this question is rapidly becoming yes."
Doug Smith, on the other hand, continues to carry Sam's water — and he shoots down the theory that an established coach would take the Raptors coaching job mid-season: "There is about a one-millionth of one per cent chance anyone with a profile will take this job right now." Mark W. emailed both Doug and myself to point out that five experienced coaches have joined a team mid-season since 2002: Hubie Brown (Grizzlies, 2002), Scott Skiles (Bulls, 2003), Lenny Wilkens (Knicks, 2004), Mike Fratello (Grizzlies, 2004) and George Karl (Nuggets, 2005).

I'm closing this shootaround with something a little unusual and a lot more personal than what I usually post. Yesterday, my son, Max, was officially diagnosed as autistic by a pediatrician. My wife and I had suspected this was the case for quite a while now, so it wasn't really a shock to have our suspicions confirmed. However, we have a long road ahead of us working with Max towards living a relatively normal life, and research and support for autistic children is sadly underfunded in Canada. So, from now until Christmas, I will post a link asking you to donate to Autism Society Canada on Max's behalf. (Click here to find out what your donation would help support.)
