Toronto Star is reporting that Jay Williams decided to sign with another team besides the Raptors...so they're going into training Camp with an open Roster spot...

Yeah. They invited Tierre Brown and Corey Williams instead. But the question is, why wasn't Omar Cook considered?

The same thing that happened with Yuta Tabuse, we didn't guarantee anything, the Clippers did. Now we didn't guarantee anything so he Williams would be happy sitting on someone's bench if his salary is guaranteed.

This isn't as bad as it sounds, Jay would have been a risk, but also a risk reward type deal.
So now looking back even further, letting Omar Cook go after the summerleague wasn't the brightest idea. There's a 28 yr old in here with NO college or nba experience, and he gets an invite? Crud. |

You know it's a slow offseason when we're having a serious conversation about potential third point guard candidates who will likely just be sitting on the bench all year anyway.
The season couldn't start any sooner |

QUOTE(pennington @ Sep 24 2005, 06:20 PM) You know it's a slow offseason when we're having a serious conversation about potential third point guard candidates who will likely just be sitting on the bench all year anyway. The season couldn't start any sooner That's because Babcock is one of the least creative General Managers in the entire league. The salary cap is not an excuse for lack of roster transactions, lots of other GMs of teams who were in horrible cap situations have changed the face of their roster just to give the team a "fresher" look. But Babcock has kept this horrible roster intact while continuing to lie to fans about these so called "healthy trade discussions" that never amount to anything. |

You know this is all really because of Jalen. Damnit... he's mucking up our possibilities for this season. Oh well, can't wait till next season!

Too bad. Jay Williams is a cool guy. I saw him last week riding his motorcycle past the speed limit. But he still pulled over and signed an autograph.

First of all, our cap situation can't allow to offer him a decent deal. Secondly, our outstanding results in the last few seasons would turn any point guard of Jay's calibr away. Thirdly and most importantly, he knows it'll be tough for him to get a lot of PT when he has other two PG's ahead of him in the roation. Welcome Wilkensux |

Whose this Wilkensux guy you keep bringing up?
Seriously though, I am not sure my man S-Care will let me keep this name with "cock" and "sux" next to each other. So if wants me to go back to Wilkensux, I am down. Having said that, Babcock sucks. I didn't think J Williams was going to sign here. I hope he does well but he has a massive injury to come back from and I don't know if he can. |

He's shown he's at the same levels as his rookie season to coaches. He snubbed Toronto though, and Babcock made it apparent that Jay is likely not coming here.... |
