The league is favored towards young, fast players. The Leafs are slow and old. I see the Raptors having a better record than them.

I know this is a leafs thread but I figured my post was not worthy of it's own thread.
CANUCKS RULE!!! Seriously, how do the new rule changes not help the canucks? I realize that the rules won't have as much of an impact as many people predict (they say they're going to cracj down on obstrustion every year) but I still think that the Canucks will be a great team next year.
vincecarter15
Sep 15 2005, 03:47 PM
they should be a good team but a lot of people are questioning their depth....their first line is crazy man...maybe the best in the league....but their second line isnt all that great...they will be a good team but i dont if they will be going deep into the playoffs.....ofcourse if the sedins improve more they'll be ok...also, cloutier is not the most consistent goalie....

I think the Senators are the deepest of the canadian teams. Pittsburgh will win the east though.

Remember:
Crosby and Lemieux are playing on different lines, they're both centres.
You're forgetting about Ziggy Palffy (besides Recchi), John LeClair, and Sergei Gonchar. I wouldn't be surprised if they take the East.
The Leafs are also a powerhouse this season as usual, hopefully they actually do well in the post-season with all the rest the oldies have had. Hope Thomas makes the cut!

The Pens will obviously be vasly improved, but I think they're aways away from winnign the East. I've never liked the Sens, but in my opinion, they're te favorites to win the East, especially with Heatly, who I think will return to form.

ur riight bro. how the hell did i forget palffy. hes pretty good. but if u think about it. leclair, lemeiux, recchi are all injury prone like crazy myan. and thats what their team depends on. gonchar is good but i think he got overpaid a bit. hes a good offensive minded d-man but he aint all that crazy on defence and defence is something that pens lack. they should be aight but certainly wont win the east.
i hate sens too much. i hope heatley gets injured or some s***.....all im waiting for is alferdson saying, "i guarantee all the ottawa fans that we will win the cup this year, fo sho" lol

I know most of us dont like Sens, but they are good and have no glaring weakness. They have 3 of the top 10-15 defencemen in the game today(Chara, Redden, Phillips), 4 all-star calibre forwards(Alfreddson, Heatley, Havlat, Spezza), and a veteran experienced goalie(Hasek). The only way I see them losing is if Hasek gets a serious injury after the trade deadline.

i like the sens except for hasek... he's just so old now, and i can see his groin injury only causing more trouble in the future
the leafs are gonna be crap, they're banking on lots of old men like they always do. they're gonna start off strong but their legs will be gone by the springtime, lindros will continue to have no heart and ed belfour will continue to be 500 years old, they still have him right?

Those are 2 words that don't belong together. I may be bias since I am a Habs fan, but how can anyone tell me this is one of the strongest teams in the East?
· Belfour is one save away from a major back injury.
· The defence corps is a mess.
· You have 2 centre's with very questionable health problems.
· Sundin is 2 years older.

I don't think the leafs will be as bad as some people think they will, but they aren't going to be great. Jason Allison and Eric Lindros are not very safe pickups, they are both past their primes and have a history of injuries. I say they make it to the playoffs and lose in the first round. Hopefully to the flyers

Anyone remember that time when Jeremy Roenick ended the Leafs season with one swing of that stick? Replace JR with Peter Forsberg, and you have Toronto's exit strategy.

Philly is a dangerous team but as always, I question their goaltending. Itss a huge ????, not to mention their defense is very slow and with the new rules, this could be a problem. I love big defencement too, but when you have like 5 of them, teams are going to look to exploit that. I still think the Senators are the team to beat in the East, the two Pennsylvania teams battling for 2,3. Tamps is done, cinderella story is over. I see them making the playoffs, but maybe as 6 or 7 seed.

Yeah. I know exactly what you're talking about. Sometimes when the Leafs play the same time as the Raps, and I'm watching the raps in the basement and my dad going nuts with the leafs in the livingroom, to him, it's like I'm committing a crime downstairs or something.

when both the leafs and raps on at the same time i keep switching between channels. also depends on who's winning. if raps winning i'll watch them but normally i end up watching leafs because raps are pathetic to watch.

A deal between the Maple Leafs and Red Wings may be heating up, sportsnet.ca has leaked out details or a trade between the two parties.
To Toronto: Henrik Zetterberg, Nik Kronwall, 3rd round draft pick
To Detroit: Thomas Kaberle, Nik Antropov, Carlo Colaiacovo
We will try to verify the validity of this deal. As of now, nothing has been confirmed

Antropov should be traded. I dunno why he got signed. He clearly sucks. He kept passin the puck to the senators instead of his own damn teammates. I hope Alfredson gets injured or something. I hate that guy. He was a Leaf killer today.

Reports say Sundin will be fine. Anyone see the Canucks game? Naslund lit it up with two beauty goals, and aside from a late PP goal, they dominated the (obviously weak) Coyotes. Was anyone else watching the games totally tired of hearing athe announcers tell us "that never would have happened in the old NHL"? got old real fast. I thought the game was faster, but it will take time to really take effect. I also liked how they were calling the dives. At least 2 in each of the games I watched.

Even after he got hit previous to this one (a short while after Berard lost his eye), Sundin took off his temp visor as soon as his eye healed. I'm sure he'll wear a temp visor again, he's hated the shield ever since leaving the Nordiques way back when.
