Gosh Golly, I know I'm excited.
Grizz
Go Canada. WE have to win curling this year.....we just have to.
Captain Haddock
Ah the benefits of having only CBC on your sh*tty little TV....non-stop reminders of the other olympics not quite as cool as the special peoples games
vanillashake
The only thing I give a rats arse about is the hockey.

If you guys think CBC is bad nothing is worse than the us coverage and Bob Costas ranting and raving about Apollo Ono.
Nat
hey it fills up time for when there is nothing else on tv and now that they have put the events on free on rogers on demand maybe mroe ppl will watch this ish

Just pray to god that there is no figure skating scandal this time around.

The LAST thing we all need is coverage of that for a friggin month afterwards.

I dunno. I was skiing and sniper shooting just the other day.

The Efman with another funny.

I must be in the minority it seems but I always look forward to the Olympics. How often do you become emotionally attached to the outcome of a cross-country ski race?
pennington
Jeremy Weatherspoon is the Chris Webber of speed skating. I can't believe he sucked again. This is shaping up to be a bad olympics, but Jen Heil's performance was pretty sweet.
throwitdownbigman
This always happens, some one comes out of nowhere for Canada early (Heil, Whitfield, Rebliatti (sp?)) but then everyone who's supposed to win a medal comes up short. Canada's going to have a lot of catching up to do.

I realized today that Biathelon is a pretty intense sport. You could be out in front and then miss 2 shots and be out of contention in a matter of seconds. You have to be able to transition from an all out sprint to completely calm very quickly. I would imagine it would be one of the tougher sports to master.
Grizz
US ties Latvia, the Russians lost, and the Czechs lost to the Swiss!!!!
Captain Haddock
I'm sorry, but MANLI WANG won silver in the 500m.
llama
At least he's in China. Poor bloke would have it if he lived here without a name change. That's cause for a blackeye every bar visit... even for his friends.. "I have Manly Wang with me here.." laugh.gif
PBI
4 medals! What an awesome day!
llama
^

Too bad they didn't include any gold.

Overall standings: compared to USA, not bad... 8 to their 9. Their 6 gold looks crazy though. For once i'd like to see us > USA in final standings when it's all said and done. Likely not this year though sad.gif
Grizz
Likely never. Our amateur sports program sucks in comparison.
llama
They're saying in the next winter olympics (2010), Canada will be a force to be reckoned with, especially in new events. Take it with a grain of salt?
llama
This just in, GUARANTEED MEDAL for Canada today with 2 Canadian women qualifying for finals in Snowboard cross event!

Propaganga....I am proud that we value more things in society then pileing up gold medals.

USA has such a low self esteem they need to dedicated TONS of $$$ to beating up the world every four years.

Let them have their bone.

I don't know, everybody likes winning, whether they want to admit it or not. Canada just has a losers complex where we can say we're happy with 5th place finishes when the person was favored to be 7th, when in the long run it doesn't matter to us. Yes it matters to the athlete, good for him/her, but the point of olympics is medals.

It's like Raptors fans being happy with our team because Charlie V was supposed to give us like 10 points a game from him and he's giving us 15- but we're nowhere close to the playoffs.

It looks like we're about to leapfrog them with 2 medals in the skeleton... Plus the US women's hockey team just lost in the semis.
Swirsk_Is_Back
I have to say, Canada is surprising me. Tied for 2nd with 11 medals, thats pretty amazing (for Canada)

The IOC projected something along the lines of 22-25 medals so we shouldn't be too shocked.
PBI
Who thought Pat Quinn could even screw up an All-Star team? Canada gets shut out for the second straight game today.
pennington
I care less about the men's hockey team than i do about every other competing canadian athlete, because, quite frankly, they don't really care.
llama
Canada just beat the Czech Republic 3-2, and looked like complete CRAP doing it. They dominated the first period, and looked so tired, outplayed, outhustled, and outshot in the remaining two periods.

An ugly win, but we'll take it. A loss in this game would not have affected our chances in making the quarterfinals anyway, but a win or a tie would have moved us up in rankings. Thankfully we won and moved up to third place in our ranking!

If this style of play goes on, Team Canada is toast vs. the stronger skating teams like Russia. Absolute toast.

Hopefully we get the gold!

^^ Umm, no. Maybe it was the Miller Genuine Draft that affected what I saw, but if you can't get within 15 feet of the other team's net... it's like Canada put sandbags under their jerseys.

I was actually referring to your last line in that post, sorry for not clarifying...
